About Me

It’s hard to write an about me page. Who am I? Good question… wish I had the answer. I thought as I got older that I might figure that out but things change constantly and I guess I do too.

If you want to know who I am from a work perspective you can check out my resume page. By trade I am a graphic designer and that’s a little piece of who I am. I like design, I am observant, I notice things like if a sign has too much space between certain letters or if a business card is cut crooked.

I wanted to be an artist (among other things) from an early age. I was one of those kids who screamed and cried when their mom left them at school. The school shuffled us criers off to other rooms so we didn’t get the whole class going. I was fortunate that I always got to go either with the art teacher or the librarian. Something clicked back then because guess what? I still love art and books.

So what were the other things I wanted to be? The usual I guess, an astronaut, photographer, teacher or a writer. I really wanted to work for NASA but I was told that my math wasn’t up to par for that. At that point I actually listened when people told me something like that. I wish I didn’t. I don’t any more. If you tell me I can’t do something well, I will show you. I can do anything if I put my mind to it, math or no math. If I had a nickel for every time someome told me that I couldn’t do something, I would be rich.

I’m quiet, less than I used to be but still introverted. I express myself better through art and writing than verbally. Growing up, I heard people say that I was stuck up because I didn’t talk much. News Flash – sometimes quiet is just quiet and nothing more, so don’t read into it. I am not a people person. No offense to the people out there, I am just more comfortable with less people and more animals. That’s more of an inner issue with me and not a reflection on you all.

I love to read but I don’t do it as much as I used to. I don’t know why but after my father died I lost a lot of my drive to read and do photography. I still enjoy reading but I need to get hooked right a way or I don’t have the patience to keep reading. My first love of books was always science fiction but now I am into mysteries and suspense too and occasionally your typical popular novel. My favorite book from when I was a kid was Daniel Manus Pinkwater’s Lizard Music. It had a profound effect on me and I am forever grateful for all his books.

The movie that had that effect on me was Star Wars. I think that really opened my eyes to what could be going on out in the universe. That started my quest for knowledge about the stars, planets, universe, black holes and anything else that was flying around in the night sky.

I like to learn new things, cook, craft, take photographs, work with my dogs, keep fish, help others, read comics, take online courses, kayak, collect toys and build legos. Life is a journey so keep on learning, changing, growing and enjoy the ride.
